Laparoscopic surgery, also known as minimally invasive surgery, is a surgical technique that uses small incisions and a tiny camera to view and operate on internal organs. In gynecology, laparoscopic surgery is commonly used to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions, including infertility, pelvic pain, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and fibroids.
During laparoscopic surgery in gynecology, the surgeon makes small incisions in the abdomen and inserts a laparoscope (a thin, lighted tube with a camera) to view the organs. Additional small incisions may be made for other surgical instruments, such as scissors, forceps, or lasers, to perform the procedure.
Compared to traditional open surgery, laparoscopic surgery in gynecology has many benefits, including:
1. Faster recovery time: Smaller incisions mean less trauma to the body, which results in a quicker recovery time.
2. Reduced pain and discomfort: Smaller incisions and less tissue damage during laparoscopic surgery can result in less pain and discomfort.
3. Less scarring: Smaller incisions also mean less scarring compared to open surgery.
4. Shorter hospital stay: In most cases, patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery can be discharged from the hospital on the same day or the following day.
5. Improved accuracy: The laparoscope provides a clear view of the organs, which can help the surgeon to perform the procedure with greater accuracy.
Some common laparoscopic procedures performed in gynecology include:
1. Hysterectomy: Removal of the uterus, often used to treat conditions such as fibroids or heavy menstrual bleeding.
2. Ovarian cyst removal: Laparoscopic surgery can remove ovarian cysts while preserving the ovaries.
3. Endometriosis surgery: Laparoscopic surgery can help diagnose and treat endometriosis, a painful condition where the tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus grows outside of it.
Laparoscopic surgery in gynecology is a safe and effective alternative to traditional open surgery for many conditions. Patients should consult with their gynaecologist to determine if laparoscopic surgery is right for them. Dr Latika Singh Sinsinwar has successfully performed hundreds of Laparoscopies and her patients have been immensely benefitted.
Hysteroscopy
Hysteroscopy is also a minimally invasive procedure just like laparoscopy.
Hysteroscopy is a medical procedure that involves the insertion of a thin, lighted instrument called a hysteroscope into the vagina and through the cervix into the uterus. The hysteroscope allows the surgeon to examine the inside of the uterus and identify any abnormalities, such as polyps, fibroids, or scar tissue.
During the procedure, a fluid or gas may be used to expand the uterus, which helps the surgeon get a better view. If any abnormalities are identified, they may be removed or biopsied during the hysteroscopy.
Hysteroscopy can be performed for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. Diagnostic hysteroscopy is used to identify the cause of abnormal uterine bleeding, infertility, or other uterine abnormalities. Therapeutic hysteroscopy can be used to remove polyps or fibroids, treat abnormal uterine bleeding, or remove scar tissue.
Hysteroscopy is generally a safe and well-tolerated procedure, but there is a small risk of complications, such as bleeding, infection, or damage to the uterus or other organs. The procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis under local or general anesthesia, and most women are able to return to their normal activities within a day or two.
Dr Latika Singh Sinsinwar is very well experienced in successfully performing hysteroscopy. Hysteroscopy can be an effective tool in diagnosing and treating uterine abnormalities and can help improve women's health and quality of life.
